Cubicle - A Study In Blue

The transitional culture shock of art school to cubicle, inspired a need to explore boxes and repetition. Experimentation with abstraction and a focus on blue, expanded into a full series. Using cubicle commentary as backdrop, the work explores color juxtaposition and the interplay of individual pieces that stand, simultaneously, as independent artworks and a cohesive unit.

The images and color interactions are inspired by previous experiences with paint, immediate surroundings, and studied observances of other artworks over a period of 9 months. Each square is approximately 3" X 3" though no square is exact in its measurement or even square at all. A multitude of layers of paint, achieves the final textures and overlays.

For this, Oscar Wilde seemed most relevant:

“We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely.

All art is quite useless.”
